mentoring & how it works

Yesterday we took a tour of the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center.  One of the modules dealt with playing a game, which our instructor explained, helps the Hippocampus.

A part of the brain is involved with forming, storing, and processing memory.  We have to teach our young people the truth and let the youth know it’s ok to let people know you are smart.

INFORMATION CAN CHANGE YOUR PROSPECTIVE

REAL LIFE SKILLS FOR HOUSING

Ask yourself, is your child/young adult ready to live on his own? Does he or she know what it takes to rent an apartment or purchase a house? Have you had that financial and character conversation necessary to prepare them? If you haven't yet, you probably will want to.BTYS is making an investment in our community and our youth. Thank you, Tameka Vaden, Lawrence Howerton, Jr., and Southside Outreach Group for putting your BOOTS ON THE GROUND!

How will you earn a living, and support yourself

There are only a few things in life that are free. Most things of value must be earned! Inheritance, entrepreneurship, or employment are the main options available to most. Gabe is an entrepreneur, investor, and manager at Burger King, he shared a few of steps to becoming financially secure. For most young people it starts with a job! Thank you Gabe for putting your BOOTS ON THE GROUND!

i want to drive now!

How many times have you heard a young person say, "I WANT A CAR". Shawn A. Barksdale and Boots On The Ground sat down with the Terry Auto Group to find out how that works! Both Mark Smith and Mark Dalton said to know what you want, have good credit and a means to pay for your purchase. Then come to the Terry Auto Group and then purchase the right vehicle for your budget and needs. Thank you Terry Auto Group for PUTTING YOUR BOOTS ON THE GROUND!

FINANCIAL LITERACY IS A key TO SUCCESS

Mrs. Jennifer Throckmorton, Branch Manager. Who gave our young men an excellent presentation. These young men learned about credit, credit scores, loans, financial character, identity theft, and much more.

We always hear it takes a village to raise a child or children but which village are we referring to? Our youth and parents need real-life skills today that can catapult them into tomorrow.
